Every day, drugs are trafficked through our high schools, and mass shootings are happening at an alarming rate. Detection Dogs can locate weapons and narcotics while reducing the threats associated by deterring future behaviors. There is NO REASON a school should not have some form of detection dogs on a regular or emergency basis to reinforce school safety. It’s time for schools to take a more proactive and less predictable approach to reducing violence.

Recent School Safety Studies Have Shown:

• 35.1% of 12th graders have used an illegal substance in the past year

• 21.3% of 12th graders have used an illegal substance in the last 30 days

• 16.6% of 10th graders have used an illegal substance in the last 30 days

• 6% of 12th graders say they use an illegal substance every day

• 81% of 12th graders say it would be easy to get an illegal substance at school

• Only 32% of 12th graders feel that regular marijuana use is harmful

Nearly a quarter of American high school students use at least one type of illicit drug. According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, the most popular drugs in high schools are as follows:

• Amphetamines, Adderall, opioid painkillers, marijuana, nicotine, tranquilizers, cough medicine, Vicodin, hallucinogens, OxyContin, sedatives, Ecstasy (MDMA), LSD, and cocaine.

High school students can find drugs through friends, word-of-mouth and on the Internet. Most kids needn’t look any further than their school — nearly 44% of high school students know a CLASSMATE who sells drugs. When asked which drugs are sold:

• 91% said marijuana

• 24% said prescription drugs

• 9% said cocaine

• 7% said ecstasy
